COMPRESSION STOCKINGS

WHAT ARE THEY?

Compression stockings or socks are legwear that go up to your knees, thigh or hip. They have gradual tightness or compression throughout them. You can get them over the counter (<20 mmHg) or prescribed for medical reasons ( >20 mmHg).

WHAT DO THEY DO?

Compression stockings are used to improve blood flow in your legs. They help with swelling, varicose / spider veins, fatigue and cramping in legs. They are commonly used by people with circulation problems, pregnant women, athletes, post-surgery, during flights and for work that requires prolonged standing.

HOW DO I GET A PRESCRIPTION?

Compression is usually prescribed by your physician or by a chiropodist (depending on insurance). Before prescribing a thorough medical assessment is important.

HOW ARE THEY MADE?

Few key measurements are taken before dispensing the stockings. It's dependant on the strength of the compression and the length. Medical grade compression should always be dispensed by a health professional.

DOES MY INSURANCE COVER THEM?

Most private insurance plans cover multiple pairs of compression stockings given they are medical grade (>20 mmHg).
